Internet & Pornography

1118

The Internet is a monstrous beast. Options are huge, information is open to all, the routes through are random and at times, dangerous.

Things can spiral out of control very fast on the internet. The isolation and lack of intimacy involved in viewing pornography make time disappear and the moral compass quickly means nothing:

It is easy to find yourself being turned on my images, concepts and stories that had never previously featured on your possible list of sexual urges.

Finding ways to step away from the screen, to curb the urge to return, to master the feelings that seem so overwhelming, including shame and depression, can feel like a Herculean task. Why both? I hear you asked yourself, many times.

I work with a lot of clients of both sexes who feel they have used pornography to excess, to avoid intimacy and emotional contact, or feel that their viewing is detrimental to themselves. The work can involve contracts between us, work on intimacy issues, communication skills and anxiety reduction.

Relief is possible, and the outlook is positive.
